The dead walking church
Reading: Revelation 3 vs 1-6
Key verse: 1
They have a name for themselves,
performing usual religious activities with the new and the old thronging to the
place of service to worship God. Services most of the times, heralded by the
leader who appears in his glorious apparel, with all the charisma, charms that
can woo all to believe that he is a man for the hour. In the boundary of humane
perception, it is the reigning church were all manner of miracles and what have
you, felt and experienced but before He that has the seven Spirit of God that
sees beyond the realms of humanity and have everything both hidden, covered, in
the dark naked before Him, it is nothing short of a dead church.
A church that has lost focus of heaven;
messages most of the times titled towards materialism and acquisition of all these
mundane things of the world, accommodate sin with the narrative of don’t judge
and other abnormalities that opposes what Christ stands for is nothing short of
dead.
And in our present dispensation,
it will not be onerous task in finding such a one. Beyond the sweet melody that
exudes from the instruments, magnificent display of the dancers, piercing voice
of the choristers, and the abracadabra of the Pastor; if sin still reigns and romanced
with, message of salvation and eternity sidelined, righteous living swept under
the carpet, however the noise of their worship is, it is all for nothing.
Ezekiel 18 vs 20bkjv—made us to understand that a sinner is a wicked
person before God; the sacrifice of a wicked person is an abomination before
God—Proverb 21 vs 27kjv and when we praise, worship God we are
rendering sacrifice unto Him—Hebrew 13 vs 15a.
The Church of Sardis, admonished
by Christ to strengthen the Christian lifestyles, behaviors and doctrines, that
are about to die in their midst, reprimanded them of the dangers that lurk if
they did not repent from where they have fallen.
Thoughts for today: Are your
sacrifices, thanksgiving to God done out of deadness? Or is it out of a sweet-smelling
savor that glorifies Him. Is there something that need to be strengthen in your
life? Is there a repentance to make? If there is any do not linger, do it as
the Spirit reveals.
Prayer for today: Lord, I come just
as I am before thee asking for thine mercy Oh! Lord. Any area of my life that
exudes deadness, I ask that you forgive and grant me the grace to live a life
that exudes a sweet-smelling savor. This I ask through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
