Common in our present dispensation, you will find people alluding to themselves to be of this denomination, exalting the denomination, synagogue beyond others. The stench of their bigotry, pride as they tear down other churches, exalting only but theirs reeks to the high heavens. To them, their leader, founder, who they hold in high esteem and speak of more than they speak of Christ, is their God and his ministry, the pattern he does it is the blue print and every other pastor, leader is doing it wrong. Not far-fetched, among the same denomination, you could also find trace of class, loyalty and submission to a particular Pastor above the other just because of power of God he exudes, financial status, degree, influence in the society.

These characteristics, weren’t far-fetched among the Corinthians church. In their own verse, some had preference for Paul to Apollos and vice-versa. Paul, having caught a whiff of that onerous smell that was palpable in the Corinthian church arrested it in his epistle to them. Verse 3—he made it clear to them, that those that follow that path are still living a life of carnality and the scripture made it clear to us that carnality is death—Romans 8 vs 6a.

The prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelist and others that are working for the propagation of the gospel, fulfilling the mandate given by Christ are all God’s husbandry irrespective of their pedigree, status in the society and what have you, if God didn’t grant increase, all they do will be for nothing—verse 5-6. Let us as followers of Christ stop placing one above the other, everyone is performing according to the grace, the Lord, has given to such a person. Without God making the works of an Apostle to be fruitful, his labor will be like sowing to the wind and the same goes to other offices.

Thoughts for today: Have your heart been given as a ground for the seed of division to spring forth? Are you among the propagator of it? It doesn’t matter how much you professes to be a follower of Christ, once you are a divisor, then a re-examination of life is needed and should be done urgently.

Prayer for today: Lord, I come to thee, search me oh! Lord and if in any way I have contributed in sowing the seed of discord, forgive me, this I ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
