An unwavering decision
Reading: Ruth 1
vs 18kjv
Key verses: 16-17kjv
As the
journey progresses, it reached a point that Orpah gave in. She kissed her
mother-in-law and returned back to her country—Moab, but her sister remained
resolute and unyielding despite the persuasions of her mother-in-law.
“Entreat me
not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou
goes, I will go; and where thou lodges, I will lodge: thy people shall be my
people, and thy God my God: where thou dies, will I die, and there will I be
buried: the Lord do so to me, and more Also, if ought but death part thee and
me.”—vs 16-17kjv
That was a
reply from a mind that is fixed, unwavering and never give up. From her reply
to her mother-in-law persistent persuasion to go back, it could be deduced that
she was:
a) Willing for a fresh start, not with
their former god in their land but with the God of Israel
b) A fellowship with a new set of
people—children of covenant.
That her
unyielding decision earned her a place in the genealogy of Jesus Christ, that
it would have been incomplete without her.
She carved
her name in the annals of history and also earned herself a book in the bible.
Thoughts:
Have you decided to follow Jesus unyieldingly, are you still caught in the
middle or probably in the league with scoffers, ways of sinners, seats with the
scornful? (Psalm 1 vs 1)
Prayers:
Lord, I ask today as I decide to follow you unyieldingly that you grant me the
grace never to go back any more. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ.
