Significance of Hosea's Marriage
Reading:
Hosea 1 vs 1-11kjv
Key verse: 2kjv
As a vessel
of God, holy and chaste, he was told to marry a woman of whoredom. It was clear
instructions from the Lord. Is the Lord contradicting Himself by these
instructions. Off course not.
A times,
some instructions from the Lord would look like a contradiction. I want you to
know that God is clearer than clear to contradict Himself. The foolishness of God
(I Corinthians 1 vs 25) is greater than the peak point of the height of men’s
wisdom, had been, now and will be all combines.
A woman of
whoredom, in Hebrew [eshet zenunim] which is similar to eshet medanim[wife of
contentious]. It suggests an unfaithful wife rather than a prostitute from
beforehand. So, Gomer proleptically was a harlot.
God, countless
times in the scriptures attributed the relationship between Him and the
children of Israel as the one between husband and wife. Israel was to Him a
wife, bride [Jeremiah 31 vs 32b, Isaiah 54 vs 5a].
Hosea played
the role of God, while Gomer was referred as the unfaithful Israel. God was not
pleased with Israel --- northern kingdom of original Israel, because of their
unfaithfulness towards keeping the stipulated laws, passed from Moses to them.
Their backsliding state into idolatry, whoredom and all manner of atrocities
that God detests brought God’s punishment to them.
Verse 4
talks about God proclamation to them about the cessation of the kingdom of the
house of God.
Verse 6
talks about God’s mercy departing from them and in verse 9, God proclaimed
total rejection of the children of Israel. This word you are reading if for reproof and
correction in case your ways, lifestyle is like the one of children of Israel
who perpetually slide into sin. That you have started following Jesus’ today is
not a license to be leaving a careless life or any how life. Don’t league with
those of the opinion of once you are saved, even if you slide back into sin,
your salvation is still intact as far as you are always confessing after
falling into it. Be properly guided, the scripture did not say so. Don’t take
the mercy of God for granted because if He removes it from your life, it will
be terrible. But that will not be your lot.
Thoughts:
How is your life? Are your ways pleasing to Him? Or are you taking His mercy
for granted?
Prayers:
Lord, help me in my walk with you, give me grace to live a life that pleases
you so that your grace will forever be my covering.
